Esthetics Program Admission Procedures

Admission Procedures
  1. Complete the application form, including the essay questions.
  2. Show proof of being at least 18 years of age.
  3. Request an official copy of your high school transcript or GED certificate and arrange to have it mailed directly to Health Works Institute. A college transcript may be submitted instead of a high school transcript or GED certificate, only if the college transcript includes a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit.
  4. Obtain two letters of recommendation from individuals who are not family members. The letters may be enclosed with your application, or they may be sent separately to Health Works Institute. Please ask the letter writers to: place your name at the top of the page; describe your work abilities and personal qualities; and comment on your choice of esthetics as an occupation.
  5. Make sure that you have received a minimum of one skin care treatment before your application will be considered. The treatment must be from a licensed cosmetologist or esthetician in a professional setting such as a salon, spa, or medical office. You must submit proof as indicated on the application form.
  6. You must inform the school Director of any communicable disease or condition that you have that is likely to be spread in the school and clinic environment.
  7. Conviction of a sex crime or other violent crime: The application form includes a statement that you must sign to certify that you do not have this kind of history.
  8. Make sure you read the entire catalog.  You will be expected to agree to comply with standards, expectations and professional standards. Before your applicant interview, you must carefully review the following sections of the catalog:  Course Descriptions, Expectations, and Student Standards of Conduct.

When all of the application materials and the application fee have been received by the Institute, a call will be placed to the applicant to schedule the admissions interview. Please note: the interview will not be scheduled until and unless the applicant has received a minimum one professional skin care treatment within a year of the date of the application.

After the admissions interview, the applicant will be contacted by telephone or mail with the following information: notification of acceptance or denial of the application for admission; deadline for submitting the tuition deposit to hold the applicant’s place in the class; and dates and times of new student orientation.

Policy on Admitting Individuals with Disabilities
As stated in our non-discriminatory policy, Health Works Institute does not discriminate on the basis of non-performance-related disability. Applicants with disabilities are required to discuss their condition with the Institute Director, who provides applicants with a thorough description of the learning activities and performance standards required of our students. The Director holds a frank conversation with the applicant about whether or not the applicant can truly benefit from taking the program. Health Works Institute’s facility is handicap accessible, and the Institute makes reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities, including but not limited to, visual impairment, hearing impairment, paraplegia, etc.

Any applicant with disabilities is required to provide his/her physician with a copy of the Esthetician Program Catalog, request that the physician read the program and course descriptions, and obtain from the physician a written statement explaining his/her opinion of the applicant’s ability to meet program requirements and benefit from the program. If the conversations with the applicant and the statement from the physician indicate that it is not likely that the applicant can meet program requirements and/or benefit from the program, the applicant will not be admitted to the program. If the Director determines that it is likely that the applicant can meet program requirements and benefit from the program, the Director will admit the applicant to the program, once the applicant has met all admissions requirements and completed all components of the admissions process. Health Works Institute does not prevent applicants with disabilities from becoming students, provided that there is evidence indicating that the applicant can meet program requirements and benefit from the program. When a student with disabilities enters the program, numerous avenues are explored to obtain as much assistance as possible for the student and make accommodations conducive to the student’s progress and enjoyment of the learning experience.
