Massage Program Admissions Procedure

1. Complete the application form, including the essay questions.

2 . Request an official copy of your high school transcript or GED certificate and arrange to have it mailed directly to Health Works Institute. A college transcript may be submitted instead of a high school transcript or GED certificate, only if the college transcript includes a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit.

3 . Obtain two letters of recommendation from individuals who are not family members. The letters may be enclosed with your application, or they may be sent separately to Health Works Institute. Please ask the letter writers to: place your name at the top of the page; describe your work abilities and personal qualities; and comment on your choice of massage therapy as an occupation.

4. Make sure that you have received a minimum of two, full-body, one-hour professional massage therapy sessions within a year of the date of your application. The two sessions must be from different practitioners, should have been conducted in different settings, and must be received prior to the admissions interview. You must obtain documentation of both massage sessions and submit the documentation with your application (see the application form for approved types of documentation).

5 . The application form includes a list of additional items that must be submitted. All required application materials (other than the official transcript or the official GED certificate) may be submitted via the postal service, fax, or in person. If the materials are faxed, the application fee needs to be paid by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover). Transcripts must be mailed directly from the high school, state education department (for GEDs), or college to Health Works Institute.

When all of the application materials and the application fee have been received by the Institute, a call will be placed to the applicant to schedule the admissions interview. Please note: the interview will not be scheduled until and unless the applicant has received a minimum of two, full-body, one-hour professional massage therapy sessions within a year of the date of the application.

After the admissions interview, the applicant will be contacted by telephone or mail with the following information: notification of acceptance or denial of the application for admission; deadline for submitting the tuition deposit to hold the applicant’s place in the class; and dates and times of new student orientation (all students are required to attend new student orientation).

Policy on Admitting Individuals with Disabilities

As stated in our non-discriminatory policy, Health Works Institute does not discriminate on the basis of non-performance-related disability. Applicantswith disabilities are required to discuss their condition with the school Director, who provides applicants with a thorough description of the learningactivities and performance standards required of our students. The Director holds a frank conversation with the applicant about whether or notthe applicant can truly benefit from taking the program. Health Works Institute’s facility is handicap accessible, and the school makes reasonableaccommodations for students with disabilities, including but not limited to, visual impairment, hearing impairment, etc.

Any applicant with disabilities is required to provide his/her physician with a copy of the school Catalog, request that the physician read the program andcourse descriptions, and obtain from the physician a written statement explaining his/her opinion of the applicant’s ability to meet program requirementsand benefit from the program. If the conversations with the applicant and the statement from the physician indicate that it is not likely that the applicantcan meet program requirements and/or benefit from the program, the applicant will not be admitted to the program. If the Director determines that itis likely that the applicant can meet program requirements and benefit from the program, the Director will admit the applicant to the program, oncethe applicant has met all admissions requirements and completed all components of the admissions process. Health Works Institute does not preventapplicants with disabilities from becoming students, provided that there is evidence indicating that the applicant can meet program requirements andbenefit from the program. When a student with disabilities enters the program, numerous avenues are explored to obtain as much assistance as possible forthe student and make accommodations conducive to the student’s progress and enjoyment of the learning experience.
